The Butler Institute of American Art has acquired a painting by mid-twentieth century master artist, Jackson Pollock. The work, titled Silver and Black, measures 21.25 x 15.75 inches and was painted with oil and metallic paint in 1950. The painting is a gift from a Western Pennsylvania collector whose family acquired the work in 1958.
Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) was known for a particular gestural style in which he would drip paint from a variety of tools to create a web of energetic strokes over the surface of a canvas.
