Life Examined: The Impressionistic Realism of Sam Rosenthal will transport the viewer to a perspective of the world otherwise gone unnoticed. From the perspective of Sam Rosenthal, the large scale urban landscape are enhanced from his personal experiences and senses. These works convey the drama, mystery, and complexity of nature achieved through exact replication of the most minimal detail, through the unique style. The paintings are as much a reflection of self as they are a representation of a particular place. The compilation of Rosenthal’s past layered in the rendering of the oil, vignette the present while including the past to create timeless and vital imagery. This refined technique stems from a life time of education, formally starting at age 11 with classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, later going to the American Academy of Art and Washington University where he received his B.A., as well as other prominent establishments across the states.
