The Butler Celebrates Black History Month 2021
The Butler Institute of American Art joins its sister cultural institutions throughout our country in condemning racism in its various forms. The sad incident which occurred in Minneapolis recently causes us to realize that much still needs to be done to eradicate prejudice In our land.
The Butler proudly exhibits a sculptural portrait by the late African American artist, John Wilson. This extraordinary bronze sculpture depicts Martin Luther King Jr. and reminds all of us of his dream . We pray that one day racism will become nothing more than a footnote in the history books. We share in Doctor King’s dream of an America free of the evils of racism.
