About The Art

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, The Butler Institute of American Art is pleased to present a wonderful sampling of some it’s collection of artworks by Hispanic American artists.

National Hispanic Heritage Month started with President Lyndon Johnson in 1968 and was expanded during the Ronadl Regan Administration. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988 so that we recognize the contribution and the important presence of Hispanic in the United States

Spain has given the world so many of its visual arts treasures that art history would be non-recognizable without themes from Diego Velasquez to Picasso and Dali, the contribution of Hispanic artists can be said to be monumental. The Butler has, over the years, acquired wonderful examples of works of art by artists with Spanish roots. So it is that we can pull from the Butler collection an exhibition such as this with so many highlights.

The Butler can indeed be proud that Hispanic artists can be celebrated during National Hispanic Heritage Month with works from our very own collection. What a joy it is to know that this great culture can be recognized and saluted here within the Butler galleries.
