How do I find out about donating or loaning a work of art?
Temporary Pause on Acquisitions
As we undertake significant storage renovations to improve the care and accessibility of our collection, the Butler Institute of American Art has temporarily paused acquisitions. During this period, only works by major artists that address key gaps in our historical holdings will be considered. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to resuming a broader acquisitions program in the future.

Authenticating a work of art can be a big task. The Butler staff may be able to tell you if it is an original rather than a reproduction, but we are not able to appraise a work of art. Can the Butler Institute repair my artwork?
No, but we can suggest businesses that have the capacity to handle repairs. Regionally, The Bonfoey Company in Cleveland (216-621-0178) will be able to assist you.
