Minor League
The work depicts a baseball game which took place at Idora Park in the summer of 1946, featuring the Youngstown Gremlins, a minor league professional baseball team. In this compelling work, Singer captures that moment in a game when success or failure comes down to a solitary swing of the bat. In many ways, the artist retells the fantasy of “Casey at the Bat” and even goes so far as to document the event by including his own self portrait and that of his wife, Bernice, seated in the stands as witnesses to mighty Casey’s whiff.
