About The Art
The Butler is renowned for its comprehensive assemblage of the luminaries of American art. The trove of paintings by American Impressionists is one of the best-known worldwide. American artists who traveled to France between 1890 and 1920 created their own brand of Impressionism. Starring are works by Mary Cassatt, Cecilia Beaux, Theodore Robinson, and Frederick Frieseke. Perhaps the best-known Impressionist painting in the Unites States, In Flanders Field, painted by Robert Vonnoh, resides in this popular gallery.
